Education officer John O’Brien said numbers were initially low for the course and it was in jeopardy.

“But a few more names came in and we were happy with to have a class of 11 last Tuesday and 12 on Friday,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The course was run by Sonja Medcalf with most of trainees being new.

“We have a few who were retraining but a lot who had done their certificate years ago and wanted to update.”

Mr O’Brien said it was a very good start to the community college’s courses.

“Employers often look for someone who has a first aid certificate and it’s also good to have more people in the community who are trained in first aid.”
