Gresford Community Group held a clean-up campaign in the village surrounds on Sunday.
More than 20 volunteers searched for rubbish along the verges of all roads leading into Gresford and East Gresford.
Site coordinator Jane Chandler said the campaign, which is always held the first Sunday in March, is always timely with the Gresford show commencing a few days later.
“I am happy to report that the amount of debris collected was almost half that collected in previous years,” Mrs Chandler said.
“We attribute this to education filtering through schools and on to young adults who are thinking twice about ways to keep our picturesque environment clean and healthy.
“It is however interesting to note that most volunteers were over the age of 60 and there were no volunteers between the ages of 13 and 45.
“The Gresford Cleanup campaign is an initiative of the highly respected Gresford Community Group and this group wishes to thank all volunteers for helping to make our town such a clean one.”
