The current season Dungog touch football finals and grand finals were played out over the past couple of weeks with this year’s champions crowned last Monday night.

Due to a rain interrupted season, the finals structure had to be altered for the games to be played over a two week period.

Kel Sullivan from the organising committee said in the first week of the finals, two new teams to this year’s competition, All Pro and the Justice Team, made it through to the men’s B grade grand final,” Kel said.

“In the men’s A grade finals, two closely contested games were fought out with The Valtek Vikings defeating newcomers The Hot Steppers and last year’s champions The Jungle Bunnies beating the undefeated Bank Hotel Bushrangers to advance to the grand final.”

In the ladies competition this year there were only seven teams which meant the committee were not able to split the competition into A and B grade divisions.

“Competition regulars The Banchees and The JCs went head to head in the first final with the eventual winner The Banchees advancing to play the undefeated Bank Itches after they were handed a pass straight through to the grand final after their opponents The Odd Bods were forced to forfeit their game,” Kel said.

“In last week’s grand finals the Justice Team were run away winners in the men’s B grade grand final beating All Pro 6 to 1.

“In the ladies grand final the Bank Itches kept their perfect record intact with a hard fought 2 to 1 victory over the Banchees.

“In the men’s A grade grand final, the experience of captain JR Styles got his team the Jungle Bunnies home over the Valtek Vikings with a try on the buzzer securing them a 2 to 1 win and their second premiership in two years.

“The committee would like to congratulate this year’s champions and thank all the teams for their participation.

“We would also like to invite all the existing and any new players out there to be a part of the 2012/2013 competition which will get underway in October. “
