On Friday he was at Chillbillies Café for a books, bugs and bubs reading session.

2012 is the National Year of Reading and to help the children of Dungog Shire celebrate their love of reading, Doug has been hosting a number of free, fun, book-based events and activities throughout the year.

Sponsored by the Dungog Shire Community Centre, coordinator Sarah U’Brien said Friday’s reading was for younger members of the community.

“But anyone can enjoy a book,” she said.

“It’s a celebration of reading and Louise [Benson] was good enough to come on board and let us have it here at Chillbillies.

“Doug now has a facebook page and people are encouraged to upload photos they have had taken with Doug as well as scanning their colouring-in and uploading it too.

“They can also find out where Doug will be next time.”
